Primary, middle and high schools nationwide held various activities to mark the International Day for Disaster Reduction, which fell on October 13.

The activities aimed to help improve the teachers and students' abilities of responding to disasters and saving themselves, popularizing disaster reduction knowledge and relevant skills of self-rescue and first aid.

The International Day for Disaster Reduction, observed on October 13 every year, started in 1989 after a call by the United Nations General Assembly for a day to promote a global culture of risk-awareness and disaster preparedness.
